Landscapes

"His skill as a landscape artist creates compelling views of our world that move beyond time and place -full environments for your mind to explore, your senses to imagine… places as mysterious as Oregon's craggy coast, as unpredictable as a glacial view of Mount Hood, or as serene as an Pacific Northwest waterfall. His landscapes can remind us of Remington in his most enamored moments with the majestic West or of the Impressionists as he paints a dance of light on a pond or snow." Artists are not only mirrors of the world, but also keepers of the soul. We must often work not only to editorialize on current events and the sentiments of the masses, but it is often our job to also work as a counter balance. In a world of greed, we need to give more than ever; in a world of pain it is our chance to console; and in a world of doubt and uncertainty, it is our job to evoke hope and to remind ourselves of the beautiful basics of humanity. Painting from life is a pursuit unlike any other painting technique. It challenges artists to concentrate every sensory nerve on the information in front them. They absorb it all, from sight to sound, from temperature to atmosphere, and then channel those feelings from head to hand, re-creating the vision in paints on paper or canvas.

Still Life

Popular in Western art since the 17th century, still life paintings give the artist more leeway in the arrangement of design elements within a composition than do paintings of other types of subjects such as landscapes or portrature.
I agree with theImressionist and Post-Immrssionists painters, who emphasized technique and design over subject matter,Vincent Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" are some of the best known 19th century still life paintings, and Paul Cezanne found in still life the perfect vehicle for his revolutionary explorations in geometric spatial organization.

Illustrations, Fantasy, Cute and humorious.
Each fantasy piece stands on its own, while working in conjunction with the others to compel such basic concepts as curiosity, delight, dancing and quality napping. This is evident in his work from the mythical, to the whimsical, to the real. His work often evokes the tenderness and childlike earnestness of classics like The Giving Tree, and Where the Wild Things Are.
But Michael at his best melds pictorial storytelling with a hauntingly familiar world. His mermaids yield to the tidal pulls of the Pacific. His fairies dance between the rain forests and the suburbs; his bears explore the wilderness.
